Concert de Jerry Lee Lewis à Norman ( Ohlahoma ) par Linda
Hi
everyone! What a wonderful show it was last night in Norman!
The band did the usual four songs: Honey Hush, The Fireman, I Love to
Ride and Wooly Bully. Ken Lovelace said he was getting over laryngitis
so he wasn't going to sing. He left that to the others.
Jerry Lee walked out from the right side of the stage. He was
wearing black slacks and a black short-sleeved shirt. He was smiling
and bowed to the audience before he sat down at the piano.
He opened with Roll Over, Beethoven, then did You Win Again. (After
Beethoven, he stopped to take a ring off of his right hand and put it
in his pocket). He said, "Hank Williams had a hit record with this but
Jerry Lee Lewis had a gold record with it." He also said he's sure
Hank was on bended knee saying it to Miss Audrey.
He did Hadacol Boogie next, then I Don't Wanna Be Lonely Tonight.
Someone in the audience yelled out, "She Even Woke Me Up." He
replied, "No, she didn't." Everyone laughed, then he said, "No, she
did wake me up. She left with two cars...one filled with diamonds and
one filled with money. I told her, 'You'll be back,' and she
said, 'Don't hold your breath!'" That drew a big laugh!
Next was Drinkin' Wine, As Far as I'm Concerned and You Belong To Me.
Sometime during these songs, he stopped to wipe his right eye, saying
he had water in it. Someone handed a tissue to him and he put it to
his nose and made a loud sound like he was blowing his nose. Very
funny!
He did Great Balls of Fire next. What a great versions it was!
After that, he said, "That's as close as I can get to rock and roll."
Last was Whole Lotta Shakin'. He didn't kick the stool over like he
usually does. He just got up and started to walk off stage. Someone
in the front row handed him a small bouquet of flowers, which he paused
to take.
I've seen Jerry Lee three times in the last 14 months and this was,
by far, the best he's sounded! His voice was strong, his piano playing
was dead-on and he was very animated and in a joking mood during the
entire show. I wish I could remember everything he said and did.
I was in the second row on the right side so I wasn't able to get
good pictures until the last song when I went up to the front of the
stage to get the two pics I'll post.
This show did my heart good! He seems so strong and healthy and I'm
so privileged to have the opportunity to see him!
